3 Benefits of Assisted Stretching with a Professionally Trained Therapist

There are many benefits to assisted stretching with a trained professional.

A qualified therapist will be able to determine which stretches are best for you, based on your specific needs and limitations. This can help ensure that you receive the most effective stretch therapy possible.

A professionally-trained therapist is often more comfortable and knowledgeable when it comes to stretching techniques than someone who is not formally trained in this field. They may be better able to guide you through the stretches and ensure that they are done correctly.

Stretching with a professional can help limit the risk of injuries, as they are more aware of any potential problems and may be able to spot them early on.

What is Assisted Stretching?

Assisted stretching is a type of therapy that involves the use of props or devices to help you stretch. This can be helpful for people who find it difficult to stretch on their own, or for those who have limited mobility.

What are the benefits of assisted stretching?

The main benefits of assisted stretching are that it can be easier and faster than traditional stretches, and it may limit the risk of injuries. As noted above, a trained therapist is able to provide assistance and monitor the progression of stretching exercises.

With assisted stretches, you will be able to stretch more often than with traditional stretches and may reduce recovery time from sports injuries by allowing you to exercise quicker after injury.

Those who are pregnant or have limited mobility may find that they can use one person assisting them in performing conventional slow-relaxed or deep neck rotations as opposed to having their hands free. If a pregnant woman needs to stretch twice daily, then this is much easier than multiple session stretches every day.

You may be able to get all the exercises done in one visit or, on busy days you can fit it into your morning and evening routine where 3 stretching sessions will take up only 1 hour each.

Are there any risks with assisted stretching?

No! When performed by trained professionals under supervision of the therapist, assisted stretches are as safe and effective as any other therapeutic method. When you are assisted by your therapist, it also allows the excess tension to be released from a joint with little or no movement of the muscles themselves, known as ‘traction stretching’.

This is beneficial for repairing soft tissue damage that is typically associated with most sports injuries.

What do I need?

Before starting an assisted stretch program there are some items which can make life more convenient: A yoga mat or carpeted floor, a chair for the therapist to sit behind you, a water bottle and a towel to wipe your face from exertion/sweat used while performing assisted stretches.

Latice equipment costs very little amount of money, however it is essential that you have access to someone experienced in setting up different bench lifts correctly so as not cause strain on lower back or aggravate knee injuries. This can be done at home with some basic training.

So What are the benefits of assisted stretching?

  • Stress Reliever– An assisted stretching session allows your muscles and body time to relax. When stretching unassisted we can tend to rush ourselves or put it off until tomorrow. With the exception of the external influences of the world around you, scheduling an assisted stretching session allows for a 30-minute period of time devoted entirely to what your body needs. As you focus on time to breathe, your stretching therapist will work with your muscles.
  • Increase Range of Motion and Flexibility– Regular stretching is undeniably beneficial, however this will greatly benefit you if you are professional athlete or even a regular weekend park-goer who does not have time to stretch regularly. This can be very helpful when contractions from repetitive movements may occur throughout the day causing pain that has no immediate cause. Assisted Stretching will help to increase range of motion and flexibility in your joints. It will help in the prevention of injury by allowing for proper alignment and movement during activity or physical therapy.
  • Helps to decrease Pain and Stiffness– We all know that proper stretching can help to decrease pain, increase range of motion and flexibility in the body. However, there are times when you may feel stiff or sore following a workout. This stiffness can be a result of muscle tension (vellus inflection), too much stretching or not enough rest between sets. Assisted stretching will help to alleviate some of this pain and stiffness as our therapist will assist in breaking down the muscular knot that has developed from lack of movement/stretching. Your body will begin to feel more balanced and pain free!
  • Improves Balance, Coordination & Body Efficiency– What makes your muscles contract is not just what you do during daily activities but also the nerves that run through them as well. Our teacher can help with this by stretching specific areas such as supports for balance, coordination of movement and small muscle groups that may be hard to reach on their own due to poor posture.
